Winter Gear list

Basics on How to dress for Winter Weather

Fall Weather (Cool, Damp, Unpredictable) under 45-50 degrees

Layers are best: a light long-sleeve shirt, sweater/fleece, and a jacket that can be added or removed.

Bottoms: Please avoid jeans and thin leggings when it’s chilly—choose fleece-lined leggings, joggers, or soft pants that allow movement and keep warmth.

❄️ Winter Weather (Cold, Wet, Snowy)
Children need to be dressed warmly enough to enjoy outdoor play. Please send:

Infants (6–12 months):

Warm base layer (thermal or wool one-piece or long-sleeve bodysuit).

Fleece or wool middle layer.

Warm, insulated bunting/snowsuit.

Warm/cool socks

Hat that covers ears.

Mittens (no gloves for infants).

Warm booties or insulated baby boots.

Toddlers & Preschoolers (1–4 years):

Base Layer: Thermal or wool top & bottom (not cotton).

Middle Layer: Fleece pants & top or a cozy sweatshirt.-  NO thin leggings or unlined jeans!

Outer Layer: Waterproof, insulated coat AND snow pants (one-piece snowsuits are fine too).

Feet: Wool socks + waterproof insulated boots.

Hands: Waterproof mittens (mittens keep hands warmer than gloves).

Head/Neck: Warm hat that covers ears + neck warmer (no loose scarves for safety).

🚫  Avoid:
Jeans (cold, stiff, and stay wet).

Cotton-only clothing (holds moisture and makes kids colder).

Fashion boots, slip-on shoes, or Crocs (not warm enough).

Thin leggings worn alone in cold weather.

✅ Helpful Tips:
Label everything—many mittens and hats look alike!

Send extras: socks especially are prone to getting wet.

Think movement: Children should be able to climb, run, and sit comfortably in their clothes.

Wool & fleece = warm, cotton = cold

💡 Remember: There is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.
With the right gear, your child will stay warm, dry, and happy outdoors all season long.

Base layer-  REQUIRED BELOW 45 DEGREES. NO COTTON!  I highly recommend merino wool however it is expensive.  I have linked two budget friendly options from Amazon.

Midlayer:  Fleece NO HOOD sweater  any will work, posting link for ideas - https://a.co/d/75cJdpB

Pants: again any will work https://a.co/d/7fW7ycC

Outerlayers:  outer layers should be water and wind proof AND large enough for layers to be worn underneath.  I prefer the Jan and Jul rain and snow pants but am linking other options as well.   DO NOT BRING Walmart or other low quality brand snow pants, most are NOT waterproof.

Infants should have a snowsuit; i will link some below for ideas; because they grow so fast i highly recommend finding used ones if possible. I also highly recommend ones with fold over feet and hands for non-walkers
